Christian Presents at SPIE

March 2021 - Christian Bergen (PHD expected 2024) presented his work at the virtual SPIE conference on "Design of Magnetic Meso-Architectures for Improved Energy Transduction in a Peristaltic Mechanism,” Proc. SPIE 11589, Behavior and Mechanics of Multifunctional Materials XV. Virtual.

The image below show the optimized magnetic topology for two different magnet orientations. The optimization seeks to maximize the magnetic flux density in the central magnetic region of each bar. The regions of higher magnetic permeability material are red (going to 100% high permeability material), with lower (going to zero) in blue. The red regions essentially follow expected flux lines, attempting to close the magnetic circuit.
